A lot of people ask what is the difference between blue ray and dvd?.
1, Blue Ray is 1920 x 1080 so is therefore full high definition, where as 720 x 480 so in tern of the picture blue has almost 4 times the number of vertical and horizontal lines making the picture much sharper.
This is especially important when recording in high def (which is 1920 x 1080). If you purchase a full high definition camera (1920 x 1080) and then compress down to 720 x 480 your are losing a lot of quality and you are squashing the original picture which courses artifact problems in the resized image. This is especially a problem when you video horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines (such as railings or gates).
2, The size of the blue ray disk is much larger in terms of storage (megabites) so in order to get a film onto dvd you must compress the size of the file in order to fit it on the dvd which only has 4.7 gb of storage space. The blue ray however has 50 gb of space and so may not need compressing at all.
Essentially the higher the mb/second rate of the disk on play back the better quality the picture will be.
